SYNODAL LISTENING SESSION FOR SOCIAL SERVICES/MINISTRIES
August 2 at St. Mary ~ Mt. Vernon
9:00 a.m. - Noon
One Pentecost Sunday 2024, Bishop McGovern called the Diocese of Belleville to come together in a spirit of prayer, discernment, and dialogue on where God is calling the Church of Southern Illinois. The name of our Diocesan Pastoral Plan is "Servants of Christ's Mission." The aim of Servants on Christ's Mission is to revitalize our relationship in Christ and to deepen our commitment to server Christ's mission to proclaim the Good News. Everyone who participates in any of the wide varieties of social ministries within the Diocese of Belleville is invited to a morning of prayer and discussion about our future call as a Diocese. This will be an opportunity to share ideas, hopes, and dreams about our Church.
FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK:
We are quickly approaching the end of July and in front of us is the month of August. Still many of us plan days of vacation, traveling, and rest. We need to remember that all of these activities are God's gift to us. We use them wisely to regenerate and take care of our physical, spiritual, and emotional needs. It is important to take some time off and rest because we are not created just to work but to see and experience the beauty of creation given to us by God for our wellbeing and prosperity. This time also gives us an opportunity to be appreciative to God for the gift of creation and to take care of our surroundings in the place we live or travel to rest. St. John Paul II wrote, "Among the holy and admirable men who have revered nature as a wonderful gift of God to the human race, St Francis of Assisi deserves special consideration." May St. Francis of Assisi pray for us during this time of summer rejuvenation.
God bless you all! Fr. Slawomir
